Now running her jewelry business Beachside Beads by herself, Adam's first entrepreneurial pursuit was a cupcake company.

Sara Adam was looking for a necklace that she could wear in different ways, but when she couldn’t find something she liked in stores she crafted her own.

“I couldn’t find one anywhere and didn’t know if they even existed so I just decided to make my own,” Adam said.

Now, the sophomore is independently running her own jewelry company, Beachside Beads.

Beachside Beads took off soon after she got the name out with an Instagram page. When the school year started at Syracuse, Adam started making some necklaces with Syracuse colors. She also customizes the necklaces, allowing her customers to choose their color scheme. Adam adds her signature by adding two turquoise beads to the piece.

“Turquoise is my favorite color and it kind of ties it back to the beach theme,” Adam said.

Adam, an information management technology major, receives some help making the necklaces from a few interns. She pays them five dollars for each necklace they make and after they make five necklaces they get a free one.

Adam runs her business through Instagram, but she is working on making a website.

“I love crafting. I love do-it-yourself kind of projects. I’m always making something… usually if I see something I like, I’d rather make it myself,” Adam said.

Adam makes long necklaces that can be worn multiple different ways. The necklace can be wrapped around the wrist or neck a few times and be transformed into a bracelet or choker.

She also makes a smaller version to be worn as a choker with a silver moon charm attached to it. She is still figuring out what else she can add to her company.

“I love it when I see my customers on Marshall Street walking to class or something wearing one of the necklaces. It’s really exciting to see,” Adam said. “I take a picture and usually post it on Instagram.”
